HELP!
Calling all crafty people (or people that can follow directions!) I need help. Awana's is starting in two weeks and they are having a kick off party themed as a drive in movie, and we are encouraged to make a car to bring to the drive in... but I really have no abilities! I do have a refrigerator box that is waiting to magically turn into a car... but no idea how to make it happen. So everyone I'm begging, PLEASE come help me make a car!!

While we're on the subject, can I just say that I get annoyed when you get your kids involved in things and you're the one that has to do all of the work? Does sound like a fun night though!
Yeah ummm...I'm totally not crafty. But maybe tape up the two ends cut off one of the sides so you can sit in it and cut some wheels out of cardboard and color it...yeah like I said I'm not very crafty! :)
Hmmm... I thought you were a crafty one. Sorry, wish I could help, but I am idealess!
alright, i don't know if i can explain this very well ... but here's some thoughts. it's a little tricky since i don't know where the box opened. but assuming it opened on a short end ...
- close up the open end(s) of the box. these short ends of the box become the front & back of the car.
- choose which long side of the box will be the top of the car (it wouldn't matter, i don't think. i mean, you've got four sides that are identical size - just pick one.).
- cut across the top of the car, say two feet from the back/short end. the area from your cut to the back of the car is now your "trunk".
- cut along the edges of the top of the car, from the "trunk line" up to about three feet or so from the front end of the car. you're basically turning that piece of the car top into a flap that you can fold up to form the windshield of your car. once you fold it up, i think you'll see what i'm talking about.
- shape the windshield however you want. probably cut out the center so the girls can see through the windshield. maybe attach some saran wrap for the glass effect.
- you may need to stabilize the windshield to keep it standing up. perhaps a ruler? or paint sticks?
- now you should have a hole between the windshield & the trunk for the girls to sit. maybe take their camp chairs?
- cut slits down the sides of the car & along the bottom edges to make flaps for the doors.
- add wheels. maybe from the cardboard you cut off the top of the car for the windshield?
- color as desired.
hopefully that made a little bit of sense. i can see it in my head.
at least, that's how i would do it, i think.
of course, all measurements are a guess. you've got the box - make some pencil lines to decide how big the trunk should be, etc., so the girls have enough space to sit.
you could also cut a hole in the bottom of the car (carefully, you don't want to cut the car into two pieces) so they can stand inside & walk the car around the room.
yeah, i'm not responsible if this doesn't work at all. :)
WOW becca, your car sounds amazing!! I hope I can pull it off... or get you out here to do it! :0) I thought about putting a front on the car, but pulling it out sounds better than trying to tape a box on the front like I was thinking! I was already thinking about putting their bag chairs inside, I thought they would make great seats.
